The Somali Blind Diaspora Association had the honor of participating in the Global Disability Summit 2025 in Berlin. We are delighted and proud to be represented as the voice of the Somali blind community on this important international platform.
Our chairman, Mr. Abbas Yalahow, held discussions with representatives of international governments, civil society organizations, and self-advocacy groups for people with disabilities during the conference. This exchange made it possible to highlight the specific concerns and experiences of the Somali blind diaspora and strengthen valuable partnerships.
Under the motto “Nothing about us, without us,” the focus was on the equal participation of people with disabilities. As an association, we made a voluntary declaration of commitment – an expression of our commitment to participation, inclusion, and sustainable improvements in the living conditions of blind and visually impaired people in Somalia.
Participation in the Global Disability Summit was a significant step in increasing the international visibility of our work and creating long-term momentum for strengthening the rights of people with disabilities in Somalia.
