The image shows two women sitting next to each other and smiling. Both are wearing sunglasses and headscarves; the woman on the left is wearing a lightcolored headscarf and a white top, while the woman on the right is wearing a brown headscarf. Next to them, another person is partially visible, also wearing a headscarf. In the lower right part of the image, another photo is superimposed, showing a child wearing a blue headscarf and running his hands over a Braille tablet

Somali Blind Diaspora

Welcome to the association “Somali Blind Diaspora” (SBD)! The "Somali Blind Diaspora" (SBD) association was founded by individuals affected by blindness, who are originally from Somalia and primarily live in Germany and other European countries, as well as other committed individuals. As affected individuals, we are aware that living without eyesight brings many challenges in everyday life and in all areas of life. We can imagine how difficult it is to live as a blind person in a country that has been afflicted by civil war for more than 30 years and where no functioning state exists to address the needs of people with disabilities or provide government support for the blind.

Out of compassion and empathy, we have decided to help blind people in Somalia as much as possible through small monthly contributions and to raise awareness of our initiative to encourage others to join us.

The image shows a person running his fingers over a page of Braille. The person appears to be in a classroom, as a desk and another person's arm can be seen in the background. The Braille is printed on thick, white paper. The person is wearing a white shirt.

The Somali Blind Diaspora Association passionately envisions a future where blind people in Somalia can live with dignity and independence—free from prejudice and discrimination, with full access to all of life’s opportunities. Our vision is of a society where blind people are recognized as valuable and equal members, able to realize their dreams and goals.

We envision of a Somalia where the rights of blind people are protected, and where they are supported through opportunities for education, healthcare, and social participation. A Somalia in which blind individuals have a voice that is heard, and where doors to personal growth and social inclusion are open to them.

To make this vision a reality, we are committed to implementing comprehensive projects specifically designed to meet the needs of blind people in Somalia. We organize fundraisers to enable life-changing assistance and foster the cohesion and strength of our community through memberships and public outreach. We work closely with local organizations and partners who share our goals and values to achieve a lasting impact together.

Through our work, we aim to create a network of hope and solidarity that supports and strengthens blind people in Somalia. With each project, every donation, and every dedicated member, we are building a better future—a Somalia defined by compassion, respect, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every individual. Together, we are creating a world where blind people in Somalia are not only seen but experience the freedom and support they deserve.
