The organization Somali Blind Diaspora is pleased to report the successful implementation of a targeted pilot project: speaking mobile phones were distributed to blind individuals in Mogadishu to enhance their digital inclusion, independence, and social integration.
The devices were carefully selected and specifically adapted to the individual needs of the users, ensuring they were immediately operational. The distribution was conducted by the local representation of the association in Mogadishu, professionally coordinated and supervised.
Speaking mobile phones are an essential tool for blind people. They enable independent communication, access to vital information, social networking, and open new opportunities, particularly through mobile banking. Since physical currency is scarce in Mogadishu, mobile payments are of central importance, providing users with financial independence and participation in everyday life.
This project demonstrates how targeted, low-threshold measures can sustainably improve the daily lives of blind individuals. At the same time, it highlights the ongoing commitment of the Somali Blind Diaspora to inclusion, digital accessibility, and the support of vulnerable communities.
